FlexEnergy launches integrated exhaust heat recovery module

Recovering exhaust heat at its GT333S gensets allows FlexEnergy to make use of an additional 545 kilowatts of thermal energy. To that end, the New Hampshire-based company just launched an integrated heat recovery module that furthers boost microturbine efficiency.

"Energy efficiency, and specifically Combined Heat and Power (CHP), is a large and important market to our company,” Mark Schnepel, president and CEO at FlexEnergy said, anticipating this market segment to grow from its current size of just over $400 million per year, to several billion dollars annually in the coming decade.

The firm’s product development hence focusses on positioning FlexEnergy gensets in a way to “capture as much of this market as possible,” he said.

The upgraded exhaust heat recovery module for CHP application is designed to increase overall efficiency of the FlexEnergy system, while giving customers the option whether to select this add-on in an integrated package.

Citing an additional use of up to 545 kilowatts of thermal energy, FlexEnergy says its new heat recovery module would be “allowing [its] product to achieve greater than 80% total system efficiency.” It is being described as the “only fully integrated heat recovery module in its class."

No reference customer or pilot project has been disclosed by the US developer as yet.
