GE Power has secured more than $800 million in new orders across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, the company announced at this year’s Power-Gen Asia industry conference in Seoul. Orders include the first heat recovery steam generator project following GE’s acquisition of Korean-based Doosan Engineering & Construction HRSG business in August.
Today’s announcement includes more than $660 million in orders from GE’s Power Services business – signed during the last 90 days, providing customers with other-OEM service capabilities following with GE’s acquisition of Alstom’s Thermal Power business in 2015, according to Steve Bolze, president and CEO of GE Power.
Latest deals include a $140 million order from Korea Midland Power Company (KOMIPO) for a 250 MW combined-cycle power plant driven by 6F.03 gas turbines. The order also includes HRSG technology which will provide combined-cycle efficiency for Jeju Island.
In Thailand, GE will participate in the first Fast Stator Rewind upgrade and life extension project at Sahacogen (Chonburi).
Malaysia’s Petronas ordered 17 emergency diesel generator. Each EDG package will consist of one of GE’s 616 diesel engines which will provide continuous backup power for Petronas’ Pengerang Integrated Complex refinery project in Johor.
Addressing climate challenges
“In a post-COP21 world, GE is able to provide its latest digital industrial solutions to help increase efficiencies, reduce environmental impacts and lower costs for our customers and EPC partners,” he said during his opening keynote session at Power-Gen Asia.
At the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21), held in Paris in 2015, the government of South Korea announced its aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 37% by 2030. GE says its broad power generation portfolio is “well positioned to support the country’s goals and regional customer needs with high-efficiency technologies.”
In Asia-Pacific, GE’s currently has more than 1,000 gas turbine units installed across 15 countries. These units can deliver from 22 MW of power up to 519 MW. Over 20,000 GE professionals work in the region with dedicated facilities in 10 countries.
