Japanese utility Tepco Fuel & Power has signed an accord with engineering firm Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) to jointly work on improved efficiency for thermal power plants at home and abroad. In focus are improved equipment solutions and O&M services.

As a trial project, the two companies will install remote monitoring devices in Pagbilao thermal power station, operated by TeaM Energy Corporation in the Philippines. Hereby, the Japanese partners will launch a new service offering that includes remote monitoring and analytics of plant operational data and advice on equipment upgrades.

By combining TEPCO FP's O&M know-how and MHPS's design, manufacturing and construction expertise, the two partners seek to deliver new customer value as they target to roll out their service solutions across Japan and Southeast Asia.

“The initiative will focus to provide its services to all thermal power stations including gas turbines, steam turbines and boilers,” they said. The combined business efforts are meant to deliver end-to-end solutions that will increase plant availability, reduce fuel and maintenance cost.

MHPS head Takato Nishizawa announced that the close cooperation with Tepco is set to create services to their benefit ”These services are based on combining the latest AI and IoT technology,” he said, “with the knowledge that we have developed over many years in the design, manufacture and EPC of thermal power plant."

His counterpart at Tepco FP, Toshihiro Sano, commented, "We will build a new type of partnership that combines manufacturer and user to accomplish such target."
