Russia's Gazprom is ready to face the heightened natural gas demand of the winter period, starting the season with some 72.1 billion cubic meters of gas reserves in storage, according to the head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller.

Briefing Russian president Vladimir Putin on the readiness of Russia’s gas system for operation in the 2016–2017 autumn/winter period, Miller said that “in the past five years we have purposefully worked to increase the daily deliverability of our underground storage facilities” adding that “it’s gone up 22 per cent over the five years.”
“By the start of the withdrawal period the daily deliverability” of Russian underground storage facilities will reach 801 million cubic meters.
“That’s a record-high for our gas industry, the largest figure in its history” he said, in a transcript of the conversation with Putin published on Gazprom's website.
He said therefore, Russia's gas system is “ready for the autumn/winter period.”

Miller also confirmed that Gazprom has signed contracts for supplies to gas-fired thermoelectric power stations, and that it expects to Gazprom will “secure power supplies during the peak heating period.”

South Stream permits to remain valid for TurkStream
Asked about the recently signed agreement between Russia and Turkey for the development of the TurkStream pipeline, Miller said that Turkey had confirmed “all the permits and documents that were developed for building South Stream within the Turkish economic zone (...) are valid for TurkStream as well.”

The deal “provides for the construction of two offshore strings across the Black Sea to Turkey, with the capacity of 31.5 billion cubic meters of gas” he reiterated.
“We have already received a survey permit for the pipeline section within the Turkish economic zone in the Black Sea, covering 250 kilometers from the border between the Turkish and Bulgarian economic zones toward Turkey,” he added.
“All this allows us to say with confidence that both strings will be built as scheduled before the end of 2019” he explained.
