MAN Diesel & Turbo and Hyundai Engineering (HEC) have completed the extension of a power plant in Pakistan for Attock Refinery Limited (ARL).

The plant, located northeast of Rawalpindi, is powered by heavy fuel oil (HFO) and supplies electricity to a refinery.

Three MAN 14V32/40 gensets generate 18 MW of electrical power for the processes of the refinery plan. That equates to the electricity demand of approximately 30,000 households, MAN Diesel & Turbo said.

Hyundai was responsible for the construction of the plant as an EPC service provider (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) whilst MAN took over the design and delivery of the engines and accessories, as well as the training of the operating personnel, it explained.

Rawalpindi is situated in the Punjab region, southwest of the capital city, Islamabad. Together, the two cities comprise one of the country’s largest industrial centres, it said, adding that the headquarters of the Attock group, one of the major players the oil and gas industry in Pakistan, are also located in Rawalpindi.

“With an installed capacity of more than 700 Megawatts, Pakistan is an important power plant market for us,” commented Alexander Stockler, senior vice president and global head of sales for the power plants sector at MAN Diesel & Turbo. “We are experienced and established both in the ‘captive power’ applications sector, as here for the customer ARL and in public power supply and the operation of power plants” he said.
