Russia's gas exports to Europe hit a “record” level in 2016, rising by 12.5% year on year to around 180 billion cubic meters, according to Gazprom's CEO Alexei Miller.

Miller reported on Gazprom's 2016 results during a meeting with Russia's president Vladimir Putin, according to a transcript of the meeting published on Gazprom's website.

Gazprom's share in the European market rose 3% year on year, reaching 34%, Miller said.

The highest growth was seen in Germany, where supplies increased by 10% to 49.8 Bcm.

Record exports towards Europe were continuing in 2017, Miller said on January 20, adding supplies over the past two weeks “have steadily exceeded 600 million cubic meters per day.”
On January 19 alone, flows to Europe reached 627.2 million cubic meters, he added.

Meanwhile “the Nord Stream gas trunkline is operating at maximum capacity” Miller said, explaining “it has been conveying 167.4 million cubic meters of gas per day for over 10 days now, exceeding the design capacity by 11.1%.”

“This proves without a doubt that there is demand for the Nord Stream 2 project and that consumers are, of course, in favor of the project” he argued.
