Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has received an order for gas-fired gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power generation system equipments for Hongkong Electric' Lamma power station in Hong Kong.
The power plant is to be expanded through the construction of a new unit (Unit 11) which will have an output of 350 MW, MHPS said.
As part of the commission, MHPS will manufacture and supply its M701F gas turbine, a steam turbine, heat recovery steam generator and air quality control system. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will supply generator.
Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) is prime contractor for the project, and MHPS will supply the main components of the power plant through MC, with operations scheduled to begin in January 2022.
This new order follows the one for Uni 10 which was awarded at the end of 2015 and is currently under construction, MHPS said.
The work is part of an ongoing large-scale project brought forward by the government as part of plans to expand gas-fired generation and reduce environmental impact, the company explained.
HK Electric is the sole electricity provider to Hong Kong Island and Lamma Island.
