France's GRTGaz lifts alert for LNG deliveries at Fos-sur-Mer

French gas grid operator has lifted the supply alert for LNG supplies at the Fos-sur-Mer terminal this week, on the back of milder temperatures and increasing LNG deliveries, after a situation of bottleneck partly due to tight LNG supplies had affected South-East of France at the end of January.

“Gas withdrawals from the Fos Cavaou LNG terminal and mild temperatures contributed to relieving bottleneck, and made it possible to limit volumes drawn off from storage facilities connected to the South-East PITS” GRTGaz said, adding that “given these factors, weather forecasts for the end of the month and LNG delivery forecasts, GRTgaz considers that there is currently no need to maintain a specific supply alert for LNG at Fos-sur-Mer.”

The gas TSO said supply continuity was ensured for French consumers connected to the GRTgaz network in the period February 6-15, with consumption levels between 1,930 GWh and 2,340 GWh, against a peak daily consumption of 2,924 GWh reached on 19 January 2017.

It added “nonetheless bottleneck situations remain likely to occur in the South-East of France during the winter and require an adequate supply to be available” at Fos-sur-Mer and storage facilities in the area.
