GE is to supply a Jenbacher J316 gas engine for to Agrocam, a poultry hatchery in Douala, Cameroon.
The technology is to help the company address challenges related to long-term power outages, GE said, noting the “severe shortage of essential electrical infrastructure” being experienced in sub-Saharan Africa.
The gas engine is to replace a diesel generator, previously used for backup electricity generation at the facility, representing a more cost-effective solution, GE said.
The Jenbacher J316 engine is set to generate some 813 kW of power. Heat will be recovered from the hot exhaust gases of the generator in the form of hot air and will be injected into the ovens of the egg tray production machines for drying.
The engines' “two-stage mixture cooling enables high flexibility, while the turbocharger bypass evens out extreme operating conditions” GE said.
