Siemens has won a contract from Centrica to provide a new combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) unit for the Kings Lynn power station in the UK.

Centrica was recently granted development consent for a new 380MW unit at the Kings Lynn plant. Siemens also built the existing plant in 1997, but it was put into long term preservation in March 2012 when the it became uneconomic to run.
Siemens has now signed a new 12-year contract with Centrica, which includes the installation and servicing of a new Siemens F-class gas turbine; the servicing of a generator and steam turbine, and the modernisation of existing control systems.
Centrica will refurbish the heat recovery system generator itself.
The power station is expected to achieve a thermal efficiency of around 85%, which is said to be “considerably higher” than conventional coal or gas-fired plants.
Olaf Kreyenberg, Head of PG Sales Europe at Siemens said: “Siemens is able to offer Centrica highly efficient power plant equipment and services for the company’s specific requirements in a competitive market environment. The new Siemens F-class gas turbine will further increase the efficiency of the King’s Lynn plant.”
